From intern to front-end expert - Steven's decade at Endare
Every team member has a unique story to tell. After over 10 years with us, Steven has been an integral part of Endare's journey.
Today, he shares some insights about his role and work.
When did you join us?
I first crossed paths with Endare during an internship 10 years ago, a time when the company was just a small team of four. I remember starting as a full-stack developer but quickly realising my true calling was in front-end development. My early days were filled with learning NodeJS, Angular, and Cordova development, punctuated by gaming sessions that brought our team closer together.
What is being a Front-end developer like?
Being a Front End Developer is about more than just coding; it's about bringing designs to life and ensuring every user interaction feels intuitive. I primarily work on cross-platform apps, developing in React Native, Flutter, and occasionally Capacitor. The constant evolution of frameworks and staying abreast of new iOS and Android features keep me on my toes. You need a certain commitment to continuous learning in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
In my role, understanding the target platform and working closely with designers are key. It's crucial to have an eye for responsive design and to navigate the challenges of performance optimisation. Guiding our partners through the limitations and expectations of their projects is also part of the job. Something I particularly like is the challenge an application brings with offline and online user flows.
What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago?
Embrace the full-stack approach initially. It gives you a broad perspective and helps you find your niche.
Don't fear making mistakes. It's part of the learning process. You will always make mistakes during the course of a project but that's how you improve!
What did you learn during the past year?
This past year, I ventured into Flutter development and gained deeper insights into native development, particularly around handling background tasks on iOS and Android. It's been a year of significant growth, and I'm excited to see what the future holds.
